The key research-based strategies featured here were compiled and developed by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, Portland, Oregon. Much of the research relies heavily of the work of educational researchers Robert J. Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane E. Pollock, authors of Classroom Instruction that Works. These authors have examined decades of research findings to distill the results into nine broad teaching strategies that have positive effects on student learning.
